It’s a vacation home at home. We created another “living room” outside where fun is to be had at every age. The challenge, there were so many ways the previous backyard did not work or function well. The bbq cut off the covered porch and would block the view of the new pool from inside and from the covered porch. It was not only not ideal, but just not an option to keep it! A flagstone fire pit in the middle of the paver stone patio with young kids and sharp jagged edges made anxieties grow. The rest of the yard was just more of the same, an A/C eating up valuable space, a 15’ overgrown hedge, and grass that always struggled to look decent. All of it together was stressful and a constant reminder of work that needed done! … Insert remodel, a clean design including an old world inspired fireplace that looks 200 years old. A pool that would serve everyone well. I love bringing in nostalgic things from childhood such as an oversized baja step, a nod to vacationing with my family. We pulled beach chairs down to the water’s edge allowing the waves to roll over you on a hot day! My mom and I would sit there forever! And now we walk outside and slip right into new memories inspired by old ones!
